Yuck, I admit that as much as I like fall organizing and decluttering, and even have favorite cleaning tools, the actual cleaning isn’t my jam. On the flip side, I know I’m much more productive and happier when the house is clean. I’m sure there is some deep psychology involved, but I just know how it impacts me. Over time, I’ve figured out that when the house is clean and tidy, I’m more disciplined with everything from time management to eating.
Don’t get me wrong, the house is NOT in that happy state all the time. Sometimes, a crazy week happens, we let the dishes go for a day and/or let mail pile up on the island and stuff gets out of control from there.
I’m getting better at recognizing that pattern and getting it under control more quickly.
Which is tough because once things go downhill, my energy level seems to drop and I don’t wannnnna clean up. I say that not to whine, but more to encourage that overcoming that instinct seems to bring my energy back once things are neat again.
Which is why I made a list of tasks for annual fall cleaning! If I schedule all ten of these tasks out each fall, the house is going to feel so much fresher and ready for staying inside more often, out of the upcoming cold.
FALL CLEANING CHECKLIST
Vents and returns for HVAC (change the filter too!)
Clean Windows and Doors
Wipe Down the Baseboards
Sweep Patios & Porches, Store Cushions if Needed
Wash All Throw Blankets & Winter Bedding

If you use an online calendar, make sure you schedule each item as a yearly reoccurring appointment. You’ll already have the time blocked off in advance!
I know technically it isn’t even fall yet, but this list wraps up the four week Fall Clean Up series. I wanted to get all the parts to you early while you still had time to fit them in your schedule. If you missed any of the weeks, here are links to each of them.
